How Do You Lose A Yeti?

Losing The Yeti In Forgotten Nation Of Bhutan
SIGNYAR, Bhutan – He remembers the darkness of the pine forest, and the footprints, and his terror when the creature began to howl. He remembers the stories of his childhood, of a beast that stalked the upper reaches of the mountains, and how fear spread through the village every time it was spotted.
In a remote Himalayan kingdom that held out against the modern world for as long as it could, the old man remembers a time when the yeti was a normal part of life.
“The creature has always been out there, and it’s out there still,” says Sonam Dorji, 77, sitting on the pockmarked wooden floor of his small farmhouse. It’s a cold Himalayan morning, and he warms himself beside a wood stove. The smell of burning pine fills the room. “If you travel the ancient trails, even today, there’s a good chance you’ll meet him.”
His son-in-law, listening to the old man’s stories, laughs dismissively from across the room.
Tshering Sithar is 39, a bulldozer operator helping pave the road to this village, which until recently could only be reached on foot.
“What is there to say?” he asks. “There’s nothing out there in the forest. Any educated person today knows this.”
Many traditional beliefs remain deeply ingrained in Bhutan, from astrology to the worship of Buddhist priests. But the monster is now increasingly forgotten, and the link to an ancient past is more often seen as a sign of ignorance.
“We can’t live today like we did in the 17th or 18th century. Our culture has to be dynamic,” says Khandu Wangchuck, Bhutan’s finance minister. “Within the last 40 years, we’ve jumped 300-400 years.”
And the yeti? Wangchuck pauses. “I think most people today know this is just a story.”
What does it mean, though, when accepted fact decays into mere folk tale? When a belief that helped tie a land together is relegated to myth, what happens to the culture that believed in it? And how can a country that entered the 20th century just a few years ago make its way in the globalized world of the 21st?http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/losing_the_ye…

Should I Collar Or Harness My Olde English Bulldogge Puppy?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

I ask this because he turned 3 months today, and is already a bulldozer. Very loving and affectionate, but strong. He doesn’t seem to mind the collar, but I have been told they simply are not enough to hold a full grown dogge and that a harness is in order. Please respond if you are familiar with the breed. IT IS NOT AN ENGLISH BULLDOG!!

How Do You See Israel’s Land And House Confiscation From The Palestinians?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Whether you agree with the legitimacy of Israel’s creation and existance, the fact is that palestinians were in the land long before Israel was settled.
the question though is if it’s ok, in your point of view, that Israel confiscated palestinian land, kicked them out, left them with nothing, sometimes driving bulldozers into homes with people in it and destroying them. Why is a civilized state like Israel acting so animalistically and violently? I thought it respected human rights, but as i have seen so far with what they did to lebanon, i was horrified to find that they are terrible. Palestinians are treated like animals by Israel and the latter cares the less for them. How can this be acceptable? If ISrael respects human dignity, would it steal their land? Isn’t this just like the europeans coming into the americas and stealing the native’s lands? I know that Israel was for the jews 2000 years ago….but, is that an excuse to go into a home, kick someone out and live in it?

Is There A Way That You Can Find Out How Many Vehicles A Person Owns.?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I live in Michigan & I’m getting ready to take my ex-husband to court after 6 years of not having to pay ANY child support. We’ve gone before & he has always claimed to he’s not working & can’t affort to pay child support. The judge always take pitty on him & I get screwed over. He is on disability & get at least $1,700 a month for the, plus he gets money from the V.A from when he was in the Army & he suffered an injury. But it’s not like he has any bills, I know that in 2005 he won this HUGE medical malpractice law suit. With the money he bought a farm with 20 acres & another 10 across the road from there. He has farm equipment. bulldozers, backhoes, semi truck, trailers, & much more. He pays cash for everything, I just need to prove it to the judge so that when we go to court it’s not my word agianst his. Personally I don’t care what he has or owns but after 6 years I’d really like him to have to do something for our kids.

What Are Your Thoughts On The Holocaust?

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I was just wondering what other people my age think about the Holocaust, and like if you have even heard much about it. I don’t mind adults answering either I was just curious about what people thought.
Here are my feelings:
Well first I’ll say I’m 14 years old. In school we have been learning quite a bit about the Holocaust, reading Night and Anne Frank. We watched a movie today which is what spiked this question. It was about these boys that spray painted a Jewish community’s synagogou (sp error) and also the rabbi’s garage door they didn’t know much about it but it was still a terrible thing to do. One part of the movie really got me it was when they showed an actual video of that time. It was a bulldozer moving the bodies I don’t understand who anybody could do that. It is so sad that they persecuted Jews like that they say they were differant but they really weren’t. I can’t belive that there are even still people today who don’t think it happened. How sad!
What do you think?
